My latest dog passed away after battling with a severe case of skin cancer. One of my dogs now also suffers from skin cancer that may or may not end up taking his life as well. So, when I heard about the Bark For Life 2017 event, I immediately jumped at the chance to photograph it. It’s the best way I can help raise awareness and be a part of the cure.
The American Cancer Society Bark For LifeTM is an event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. It was held earlier today at Grape Street Dog Park in San Diego, and I must say…what a great bunch of people and dogs!
The event was nothing but good times. Various sponsors were there to provide attendees with helpful resources and information on how to keep their pets happy and healthy. Companies like Kahoots, Barkn’dales Dog Wash & Boutique, Tragic to Magic, The Honest Kitchen, Nulo, Carly Massage, The San Diego Reiki Corps, Charms For Cures, and more, all showed up to show their support.
The day also consisted of a whole host of fun-filled contests like the costume contest, dog look-a-like contest, talent contest, and the peanut butter eating contest. I’m not sure which contest was more entertaining, but the winners of each definitely put in a tremendous effort. In addition to the contests, they gave away numerous raffle prizes and played musical sit (a version of musical chairs where the dog is required to sit when the music stops).
All and all, I’d say the event had a pretty good turnout, and I can only hope they were able to raise as much as they had aimed for. In an effort to help them reach their goal, I’m giving all attendees and volunteers from the event access to view the images online and purchase prints. 100% of the proceeds will be donated the American Cancer Society. Shout out to everyone who came 🙂
